SharePoint 2010 directories

Hi,

I am listing down the various folders structures which are created by SharePoint 2010 installation. First have a look on those folders which are created by installation and configuration:

C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\wss - Hope most of you are aware of this directory which is usded by IIS server as a default location is used as the default location for to host IIS Web sites.

C:\ProgramFiles\Microsoft Office Servers\14.0 -  When SharePoint is installed on any server then all some of the dlls, few SQL commands and some tools like certmgr are copied to this folder. The directory is configurable while doing the installation.

C:\ProgramFiles\Microsoft Office Servers\14.0\WebServices - To host the back end web services this folder is used. Few common hosted web services are: Excel, Search, Word, Lotus notes etc.

C:\ProgramFiles\Microsoft Office Servers\14.0\Data - Data storage while using the services is required by SharePoint so this directory is the root location where local data is stored, including search indexes, office applications data etc.

C:\ProgramFiles\Microsoft Office Servers\14.0\Logs – Run-time diagnostic logs are generated under this directory.

Now have a look on those directories which are placed under 14 hive

C:\Program Files\Common files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14 -
This directory is the installation directory for core SharePoint Server files.

C:\Program Files\Common files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\ADMISAPI -
This directory contains the soap services for Central Administration. If this directory is altered, remote site creation and other methods exposed in the service will not function correctly.

C:\Program Files\Common files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\CONFIG - This directory contains files used to extend IIS Web sites with SharePoint Server. If this directory or its contents are altered, Web application provisioning will not function correctly.


New Folder introduced:


C:\Program Files\Common files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS -
This directory contains setup and run-time tracing logs.

C:\Program Files\Common files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\Policy -

Program Files\Common files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\UserCode -
This directory contains files used to support your sandboxed solutions.

Program Files\Common files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\WebClients -
This directory contains files related to the new Client Object Model.

Program Files\Common files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\WebServices -
This directory contains new wcf or .svc related files.

Hi Guys, I recently experienced the migration from SharePoint 2010 to 2013. I was earlier hiding Ribbon using the SPSecurityTrimmedControl and CSS. Get Comment Count in SharePoint

Hi Guys, In this blog I will explain how we can get the number of comments on any page/article. Prerequisites for this blog are: a list with rating enabled, an article/page/splistItem already have got comments from users and a tool like VS to code ;) According to requirement it may be the case that one need to get item comment count using java script or c#. Configure external site as content sources in sharepoint search

Hi, In my previous post( Creating and configuring Search service application ) I explained how to configure the search service application and its configuration. We can also search the external sites content using the SharePoint search just by creating new content source. Follow the given steps to create the new content source for external site. To get to the Manage Content Sources page Verify that the user account that is performing this procedure is a service application administrator for the Search service application. On the Home page of the SharePoint Central Administration Web site, in the Application Management section, click Manage service applications .
